Reiki is a method of channelling universal life force through the hands, which can be used for physical, mental or emotional imbalances. It is peaceful, relaxing and nurturing, supplying life force where needed to heal and restore the body.

Origins

Reiki is a Japanese word and translates to mean universal life force energy. It is the art and science of self-improvement and originates in Tibet, from the Sanskrit sutras written thousands of years ago. It was adopted in Japan in 1922 by Mikau Usui, a man inspired by the miracles he had experienced after many years on a quest for greater spiritual understanding. He believed Reiki enabled us to connect with the universal life force and act as a channel for healing. Usui wanted it to be accessible to the world, and he left detailed records of his treatments and own personal development of Reiki before he died.

How does it work?

It is a non-invasive treatment with a laying of hands over the major energy centres in the body. The recipient is fully clothed and lying down. It can last for up to one hour and is deeply relaxing. Reiki is perfect for anyone who doesn’t wish for any physical manipulation but is in acute pain or discomfort, as it can help generate an energetic shift, a clearing that creates a space for healing within the body. It also benefits anyone requiring stress relief.

“I went to Ceri for several treatments as I had recurring lower back problems and sciatica. The sessions were very therapeutic and healing. The benefits for me were also stress relieving.”
