“I just wanted to thank you for wonderful holiday in Kefalonia. It was both rejuvenating and great fun. Ceri is a fantastic teacher. She guided us through a comprehensive programme over the week and expertly catered for a large group with different abilities. The classes were fun, challenging and supportive. My yoga practice has definitely improved as has my overall wellbeing. The location was stunningly beautiful. The accommodation was fantastic and Anna, who runs the site, is warm, welcoming and goes out of her way to make the stay as relaxing as possible. I would definitely go again.”

Hannah Murphy

“A big thank you to Ceri, who is very patient and caring and pitched the twice daily sessions just right (for me anyway)...we were a group ranging from absolute beginners to people who have obviously practiced A LOT of yoga and Ceri was able to teach all of us by clearly describing how we could modify or deepen our poses etc according to our individual ability. Villa Vigla is enchanting, Anna, the owner, cannot do enough for you....and the breakfasts are absolutely delicious!!”

Denise Parkin

“What a fabulously relaxing week with a great teacher, in a safe supportive environment. Yoga looking out to the sea under eucalyptus trees with birds and crickets as background music. I feel energised, fitter and calmer. Ceri was really excellent – a lovely mix of patience and optimism, with a ‘You can all do it’ attitude. She stretched us, supported us and made the yoga fun.”

Yoga & the Breath

20th – 22nd October 2017, £280

Claridge House, Surrey

Set in the beautiful, peaceful grounds of Claridge House, enjoy a time of embracing the present and looking forward to the future with yoga, meditation and friendship.

Enjoy a weekend of yoga and learning how to harness the breath for a more profound experience. Learn about the mechanics of breathing and employ conscious intention as a gateway for connecting with the subtle body throughout the regular asana (posture) practice. The specialised breathing techniques will help to harmonize the flow of energy within the body for a more peaceful state of mind. This course is designed for beginners and more experienced practitioners who wish to explore the fundamental principle of how to fully utilise the breath for enhanced yoga practice.

Includes

Meals are vegetarian, based on organic produce. Vegan and certain other diets can be catered for with advance notice.

Schedule

The weekend will consist of practical workshops and some talks for consolidation and understanding. Friday evening will consist of open introductions, followed by a talk exploring Prana, and the breathing mechanism as an energy system.

Saturday will involve looking at the nature of mind, positive thinking and the physical effects this can have on the body - To see how working with the breath acts as the key between the mind and body, and how that enhances our mood, whilst improving our state of mind and physical body to positive effect. Visualisations, can enable us to connect with our natural rhythm of breathing to gain more awareness about our current state of mind. With that awareness comes the ability to learn to sit with our selves, and our emotions, to ‘connect with the bigger picture’, and then work to control the mind and our emotional state through the breath work and asana practice.

As well as regular asana practice, the classes will involve isolated breathing work - practicing different types of breathing including Kapalibati, Anuloma Viloma, Full Yogic Breath and Ujjayi. We will use conscious breathing in asana work, partner work, and also some theory to better understand the mechanism itself within the body.

Each morning will start with a pre-breakfast ’opening stretch‘ session. Asana work is included along with breath work in the workshops, and we will consolidate towards the end of the course with a complete Hatha Yoga class on Sunday (1.30-2hours), incorporating what has been learnt during the weekend.

The retreat will be held at Claridge House, a Victorian building with disabled access set in two acres of gardens in the Surrey countryside.

There are 9 places available and costs £280.
